NPR’s comic car show Car Talk will be off the air after 25 years of chatty advice at the end of this September according to the show’s two hosts.
Tom and Ray Magliozzi said today that they will stop making new episodes of the radio station’s most popular program. The brothers started making the program in Boston, but Tom, the oldest, is 74 and they both agree it’s time to slow down.
It’s a sad moment for anyone who loves cars, solid radio programming, or even just a laugh, but all good things must come to an end. While new episodes wont be made after September, NPR will continue to re-run old material from the show’s considerable archives.
For anyone that faithfully listens to the show: law firm Dewey, Cheatem & Howe will still be representing the brothers in any legal matters. They will still rely on their favorite Russian chauffeur: Picov Andropov, but their summer intern Gladys Overnow will not be given a full-time position and the program’s sunscreen provisioner, Les Brown, has also been fired.
